How WhoTweetedMe works

Paste a tweet URL, and WhoTweetedMe looks up who retweeted it, adds up their followers, and shows you the accounts that gave the post the most reach. Here is what happens behind the scenes.

What you get

Three numbers and two views. The report shows total ReTweets, the average follower count of those retweeters, and the Potential Reach (their combined followers). Below that, a timeline of when the retweets happened and a table of the most influential retweeters, ranked by follower count.

How potential reach is calculated

Potential reach is the sum of every retweeter’s follower count. If three accounts with 10k, 50k and 100k followers retweet your post, the potential reach is 160,000. It is the ceiling of how many people could have seen it through those retweets, not a guarantee that they did.

Why the most influential retweeters matter

A single large account can outweigh hundreds of small ones. Sorting retweeters by follower count shows where your reach actually came from. It also tells you who to thank, and who to build a relationship with for next time.

Data and limits

WhoTweetedMe reads public retweet data; it cannot see private activity. Protected accounts, deleted retweets, and quote-posts that are not retweets will not appear. Numbers reflect what is publicly available at the time you run the analysis.

Frequently asked questions

What does 'potential reach' mean?

It is the combined follower count of everyone who retweeted the post. It shows the maximum audience the retweets could have reached, not how many people actually saw it.

Why is it called potential reach and not reach?

Because not every follower sees every retweet. Timelines are ranked, people are offline, and overlap means the same person may follow several retweeters. Potential reach is an upper bound.

Does WhoTweetedMe store my tweets or data?

No. It looks up public retweet data for the URL you paste and shows the result. It does not keep a history of what you analyze.

Can I analyze any tweet?

It works on public tweets with public retweets. Protected accounts and tweets with no retweets will return little or nothing.
